About Deb

Meet Deb, Your Financial Coach and Advocate, “Your Money Mechanic”

I help you shift gears for a  Money Makeover you can live with.

I’m a financial coach with a true passion for my work. I help women feel safe, smart and secure about their money by providing individualized financial action plans. This includes how you think and feel about money, how to save, spend and give back.  My service provides not only the action plan, but the coaching, accountability and follow-through to make it happen.  My businesses include: Owner of Women’s Money Makeover and Secure Wealth Services.

Why me, you ask?

My previous successful career in the business world was a senior scientist with Procter and Gamble. When I decided to retire and began going through the retirement process, I talked with financial planners and realized that, in general, women’s issues were not being addressed in the financial industry. As a scientist and manager in product research and development, I also understood the importance of proper planning. So after I retired in 2002, I went to work in the insurance and financial planning industry, realizing that my skill set would transfer well and that I could follow my passion to help individual women and business owners.  After being in the male dominated field of financial services, I observed that people, especially women were not getting what they wanted.  Women wanted an advocate, someone who would help them understand and prepare for their needs.

Today, I am an independent financial coach. I am also a Certified Senior Advisor (CSA). I very much enjoy having small discussion groups where women can talk about their fears, ask questions, and share life stories in a comfortable environment. Many of my clients are widows.

Unique Qualities:
I bring real life experience to the planning process. My personal experience includes the entire process of retiring, placing a loved one in a nursing home, and “spending down” assets, so I understand the pain and difficulties associated this these issues.

Would like you to know:
I don’t provide a cookie-cutter solution to my clients. For me, financial coaching and planning is a very personalized process because my bottom line is to protect what is important to YOU!

I want to find out who you are, what you want to be, who comprises your family, what risks you and your family face. After I know who you are and what you have versus what you need, we’ll look for the gaps, and together we’ll look at the protection, savings, and growth that you need. Every situation is different, and I can help make it a better fit.

Who can benefit most:
According to the 2002 U.S. Census, more than 90% of women will be entirely responsible for their own financial affairs at some point in their lives, most often through divorce or the death of a partner. If you cannot answer “Yes” to each of the following questions, I may be able to help you.

  • Do you know for certain that you can retire comfortably?
  • Are you confident that you will make the right decisions that will prevent losses to your retirement assets?
  • Would you be able to handle the finances and maintain your standard of living if your spouse or significant other was suddenly gone and never came back?
  • Are you emotionally prepared to be on your own and manage your finances?
  • Are you able to take charge of your situation when you need to?

Helping others:
I have volunteered for Junior Achievement (JA)at North Middle School in Loudon County. I enjoy the 5th graders the most. It may be what the organization is about—being an entrepreneur!  JA is my organization of choice to give back to, so I hope women that attend my “Money Showers” will give a donation for the fun and knowledge shared at the shower!

I have also a mentored women at the Joshua Resource Center in Blount County. I am involved with several other non-profit groups and help with various fundraisers.

My nickname over the years has become “Mother Debbie” because I have good listening skills, and sometimes that can be the best help.
